The Great Plains Food Bank has received $70,000 in grant funding from PHA to establish the foundation needed to implement a nutrition ranking system and to support the distribution of nutritionally dense fresh produce. In addition, PHA will provide technical assistance to help partners understand the nutritional quality of their inventory and make strategic decisions within and across food categories to improve nutritional quality, enhancing food equity for the communities they serve. Most importantly, they ensure that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making to show everyone what can be achieved when we all work together. They bring together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. By partnering with private sector organizations, the Partnership for a Healthier America hopes to give all children the opportunity to grow up at a healthy weight. This breakout targets businesses and social service agencies that are interested in nutrition and wellness efforts on a community level. DMARC, one of the first partners in this area with PHA, will share their experience in exploring innovative ways of incentivizing healthy eating at food pantries and their commitment to PHA.
